VANTAGE BLACK STICKS WOMEN CHINA TOUR SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT

The Vantage Black Sticks Women will travel to China later this month to compete in the Changzhou Invitational Tournament, continuing their build towards major international competitions.

The team departs New Zealand on 22 April, with the tournament set to take place from 26 April to 4 May at the Wujin Hockey Training Base in Jiangsu Province, Changzhou and will be live streamed through Hockey TV.

New Zealand will compete against a strong international field, including Argentina, Korea, China A, China B, and the Jiangsu Hockey Club, with six teams in total contesting the tournament.

The invitational provides a valuable opportunity for the Vantage Black Sticks Women to test themselves against top-level opposition, including two tier-one nations in Argentina and China, both of whom currently compete in the FIH Pro League.

Women’s match schedule (NZT):

  • vs China A – 26 April, 9:00pm

  • vs Argentina – 27 April, 9:00pm

  • vs Jiangsu – 29 April, 11:00pm

  • vs Argentina – 1 May, 9:00pm

Following the round-robin matches, teams will progress into two rounds of finals or classification matches, with New Zealand set to play a total of six matches across the tournament.

The Vantage Black Sticks women will travel with a 19-player squad:

Anna Crowley, Britt Wang, Casey Crowley, Ella Hyatt-Brown, Emma Findlay, Emma Rainey, Grace O’Hanlon, Hannah Cotter, Hannah Gravenall, Holly Pearson, Julia Gluyas, Liz Thompson, Mezzy Surridge, Millie Calder, Olivia Shannon (C), Paige Blake, Riana Pho, Ruby Baker, Tessa Reid.

The tournament is an important part of the team’s international calendar, providing exposure to high-quality competition at a time where opportunities to face top-ranked nations have become increasingly limited.

It also plays a key role in strengthening relationships within the Asia region, creating opportunities for future international competition and collaboration as the Vantage Black Sticks Women continue to build towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and beyond.
